Gorgeous calligraphy canvas print by Nawaf Soliman as part of the Cities in the Heart exhibit.
Numbered giclée on wood-stretched canvas
Jericho has a history dating nine thousand years, making it one of the oldest cities in the world. Its name in the Canaanite language means the "city of the moon". It's also the lowest city on earth, due to its proximity to the Dead Sea.
Warm throughout the year, Jericho is considered the winter resort of Palestine. Jericho became a destination for pilgrims, tourists, researchers, and those interested in ancient civilizations. Jericho's Biblical and Quranic importance makes it a popular place for religious tourism.
This painting is written and drawn with the Arabic script (the Old Nisaburi), which is derived from the updated Kufic script.
The name of the city is repeated four times, and the letters were colored in browns, which were inspired by the color of the palm trees, for which the city is famous.
